How to Calculate Fuel Cost for a Trip

Trip fuel cost depends mainly on distance, actual vehicle efficiency and the price paid per liter. Using your own efficiency gives a more useful estimate than a generic vehicle figure.

Quick formula

Fuel needed (L) = Distance (km) ÷ Efficiency (km/L). Fuel cost = Fuel needed × Fuel price per liter.

Worked example

For a 250 km trip at 12.5 km/L with fuel priced at Rp13,000/L, estimated fuel use is 20 L and estimated fuel cost is Rp260,000.

Practical tips

  • Use round-trip distance if you are budgeting the full journey.
  • Use real-world efficiency from recent driving when possible. Traffic, idling, load and terrain can reduce efficiency.
  • Treat the result as a fuel-only estimate; tolls, parking and maintenance are separate travel costs.
