How Much Profit per Order Do You Need?
A target profit is more useful when you translate it into a required selling price. This prevents pricing from being based only on what competitors charge.
Quick formula
Required selling price = (Supplier cost + Other costs + Target profit) ÷ (1 − Platform fee rate). This formula assumes the platform fee is a percentage of the selling price.
Worked example
If supplier cost is Rp80,000, other costs are Rp5,000, target profit is Rp25,000 and the platform fee is 5%, the required selling price is about Rp115,789. Rounding to Rp116,000 gives a small buffer.
Practical tips
- Set the target profit after listing all costs you can reasonably estimate.
- Leave a buffer when costs can change, especially advertising, returns or marketplace promotions.
- Compare the required price with what customers are willing to pay before deciding the product is viable.
