Verified against official EU sources - 26 August 2026What the law says
Directive 2011/83/EU, as amended for application from 27 September 2026, requires traders to provide consumers with a prominent reminder of the legal guarantee of conformity for goods using the harmonised notice.
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 fixes the design and content of the notice. Its elements cannot be edited. Online-interface distance contracts use the colour RGB version; other contracts use colour CMYK or black and white with a minimum A4 size.

EU Legal Guarantee Notice Checker FAQ
When does the new harmonised notice apply?
The new rules apply from 27 September 2026. Existing consumer-law obligations may already apply before that date.
Can I edit or redesign the official notice?
The Annex to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 states that none of the elements of the harmonised notice can be edited.
What version should an online shop use?
For distance contracts concluded through an online interface, the Implementing Regulation specifies the colour RGB version.
Is GARAN the same thing?
No. GARAN concerns a qualifying commercial guarantee of durability. The harmonised legal guarantee notice concerns consumers' statutory legal guarantee rights. They have different triggering conditions.
Does a positive result mean my store is legally compliant?
No. The checker identifies readiness signals based on your answers. It does not inspect your full sales process, national implementation, contract terms or every fact relevant to legal compliance.
